Celebrating Advent

The idea of Advent is somewhat new to me. I grew up with an Advent calendar. While it did have the scene of baby Jesus in the manger, my favorite part was moving the tiny mouse each day to the new pocket. However, now that we've begun to regularly attend church I am beginning to learn a lot more about the meaning of this time of year. I've shared more than once that I am personally really just beginning to learn more about myself and my beliefs spiritually. I feel like I am really a student in this process and deciding what feels right and what I think is open for personal interpretation.

Each Friday for the month of December, my bestie and "Holly Jolly Hookup" partner, Bri, and I will be sharing advent scripture that feel is approrpriate or feel a particular connection to.

For me, I have always have a strong place in my heart for Corinthians 1. There are a lot of reasons for why it means a lot to me, but we did include the most well known passage in our wedding. So, in honor of Advent, I'm including a suggested Advent passage from Corinthians 1:3-9.

Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
I give thanks to God always for you because of the grace of God which was given you in Christ Jesus,
that in every way you were enriched in him with all speech and all knowledge--
even as the testimony to Christ was confirmed among you--
so that you are not lacking in any spiritual gift, as you wait for the revealing of our Lord Jesus Christ;
who will sustain you to the end, guiltless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.
God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.

  1. This is a beautiful scripture. What an awesome reminder that God is always faithful to us, even as we sometimes stray from him. Proud of you and glad this is a part of life we can now share. :)
